5 WAYS TO HAVE THE BEST VALENTINE’S DAY EVER WITHOUT BREAKING A BANK

So Valentine’s day in my own definition is about showing love to your loved ones.Truthfully almost every day is Valentine’s day because we should show love at every opportunity that we have to the ones we hold dear in our hearts.

So I thought what will be the best way to enjoy Valentine’s day or let me rightly put it this way; “what is the best way to show love to your loved ones?” Well, there is a myth as to why Valentine’s day shouldn’t be celebrated by Christians – Not delving into that today. If you do decide to celebrate Valentine’s day here is how I think it can become most meaningful.

Since it’s about our loved ones. Here is a couple of people I think should make it to that list – Orphans, Widows, the Sick, Family, Friends, Wife, Husband, Fiancee, Fiance…Almost everyone that fits into your love book and here is a way you can satisfy each of them even without breaking the bank!

Words of Affirmation

Identify that family member that you haven’t told I love you in a long time…Hmmm or you probably haven’t told them at all and say I Love You! I honestly used to have an issue voicing out. I still get caught by my close friends that I don’t usually say I Love you! I listened to a message once about this and the preacher gave an example;

The preacher during one of his conference talked about how saying I Love you is a form of strength. There was a man in attendance that was always forming hard guy for his staff and even for his wife. So that day after the conference he got home and decided to say I Love you, it really was the hardest thing for him but the moment he started saying it he told the preacher his marriage changed awesomely.

So I took it upon myself after the message to learn also but recently I got caught by my bro who complained that anytime he says I Love him I don’t respond. The truth is if it didn’t get to him he won’t have said it and thank God he voiced it out so he is probably an I Love you person! I took the time to explain this because we really do not pay attention to this part. We say actions speak louder than words. Well, don’t know if you act a drama without speaking o! Word of affirmation is also being a source of encouragement to someone, showing kindness…

Gifts

For me, it’s not about the amount of the gift it’s about the tangibility of the gift or the thought behind the gift. So I got a coke with my name a few months back and it was special for me because I had mentioned to this special someone that I would write to coke as a great customer of coke. So the thought that he looked out for a coke with my name and he paid attention to a need I had was it for me. So don’t just get a gift – get a thoughtful gift! One that shows am thinking of you! I hope it’s not a car that person wants tho 🙂

Acts of Service

I think my valentines day will fall under this category better! Volunteering is under acts of service! So you could go help clean up an orphanage or something with that special lady/man/wife/husband. It helps to do something together. You could help your family too and any other thing that comes to mind…

Quality Time

Time! Time! Time! So there is a saying that time is money. So if time is equivalent to money then time is quite important and to your loved ones it just might be more important than money! That’s why it’s called spending time – it is an emotional currency! So spend it tomorrow!

Physical Touch

Don’t know if I should include this but please I’d go with Gary Chapman that says there are two different kinds of touch; appropriate and inappropriate. While Love touches may be implicit and explicit. So please don’t go around touching wrongly, except you are married! Let’s give someone a hug! Hold a hand! Any other appropriate gesture you can think of.

Last but not the least, Let’s remember that the greatest love of all is God! He loved us before we even had the capacity to love him. His name wasn’t on the list because he cannot drag that space o! He must always be there as the first love! *singing I Love you pass my mother, Jehovah…* Let’s show him love on that day too! Pick any of this five ways listed about to do that.

The headings on the ways to enjoy valentines day were adopted from the book 5 Love Languages for Singles by Gary Chapman.
