I don’t know about you but the word ‘challenge’ excites me. It is very easy to remain in our comfort zone and stick to the norm except we are pushed by an external force. Hence, the reason why I get excited when I hear the word challenge. In-as-much as the word challenge is often associated with the negative it is not totally a negative word.
So, I guess you are as excited as I am for this challenge! Let’s start by defining the word productivity;
Productivity is the quality or state of being productive; doing or achieving a lot: working hard and getting good results.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary
From the above definition of productivity, we understand what it means to be productive. A productive individual is a result-oriented individual. It is very easy to mistake hard work and being busy with productivity. We must note that neither of the two signifies a productive individual.
I prefer to pay an employee who works from 8am-12pm and gets more done than an employee that works from 8am-5pm and gets less done. Due to the emphasis that is laid on being busy than being productive, we have employees that do not bother to ask themselves how productive they have been as long as the salary keeps coming at the end of the month. When it is time to let go of a few workers, the employer will definitely let go of the unproductive staff within the organization.
Take out a piece of paper, preferably a journal and write the different areas of your life where productivity is required; career, academics, business…On a scale of 1-10 how productive have you being in these areas and what area would you need to focus on more?
Now that you have a clear cut objective of the areas you want to be more productive. Here is what to expect at the end of this challenge;
- Increase in productivity (result level); Endeavour to carry out each task daily in order to fully maximize the result of this challenge. This challenge is an action call to boost your level of productivity in the different areas of your life.
