A Three Step Approach To Crafting Your Bible Study Schedule

Growing up, I never understood the importance of studying my Bible. Read your Bible? Yes!! Study? I do not think so. Let me explain! The event stated in the Bible happened in the past. So to get a firsthand knowledge of these events, you have to read the Bible. But what was so special about the Bible that required settling into it and somewhat “tearing it” bit by bit to gain insight? Well, I have grown in my faith and now, I understand why Paul thought it necessary to instruct Timothy to study God’s word.

Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman [tested by trial] who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.

‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2‬:‭15‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Reading your Bible is great! It is the first step to understanding God’s word. Without the actual reading of the word of God, one cannot know what is written in it, as it is in literary form. However, it is in studying God’s word that we get to know Him better and discover His purpose for our lives. Also, it is important that we have a revelation of God for ourselves. And once there is a revelation of God in our lives, we are yielded unto Him and He can in turn transform our lives. Therefore, the study of God’s word is the key to experiencing God’s divine nature firsthand. Consequently, avoiding errors and misunderstandings.

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall read [and meditate on] it day and night, so that you may be careful to do [everything] in accordance with all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will be successful.

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.

As a new believer, establishing a Bible-study routine is not the easiest thing to do. For it to be work, it requires discipline, commitment, intentionality, prayer, planning, and the grace of God on one’s part.

Additionally, crafting a Bible-study schedule helps in establishing an effective Bible-study routine. Here, you factor in things that can make or mar your pursuits, work towards improving the negative scenarios, and ultimately establish a Bible-study schedule that works for you.

Wondering how achievable creating your ideal Bible-study schedule is? Look no further!

Just create yours in these three simple steps:

  1. Choose a place: The first key to success in establishing a Bible study routine is choosing a designated place for Bible-study and making everything you need to study available. By having a place for your Bible-study, you subconsciously condition your mind to remember to make room for God’s word. Also, choosing a location where you can focus and immerse yourself in the study helps limit distractions.
  1. Set a time: Generally, the secret to creating a routine is to set a time. With setting a time schedule for your Bible-study, you nurture consistency. Which in turn helps create a successful study habit. Furthermore, it is important to be realistic about the time commitment. Do not go for long sessions that you will not be able to keep up with. Instead, start with shorter, focused sessions and gradually increase the duration as your routine solidifies.
  1. Make a plan: Want to cultivate a Bible-study routine that works for you? Make a plan! Decide on the Bible books, messages, study guides, and devotionals and stick to them. Ask the Lord to speak to you, trust Him to speak and come to Him with an open heart. And in no time, you will realize that your Bible-study pattern is formed.
