Five Things Christians Should Keep In Mind This December

December is here again and if you are like me, it is a month never not booked with activities. From finishing the year strong or relaxed to enjoying the festive season to prepping for the next year, this month always has a lot in store for me.
However, in spite of all the Christmas presents, unwinding, and merriment that comes with the month, it is vital to keep your joy and peace and stay grounded in all of it. In essence, December is that time of the year where it feels okay to just let everything cool off and flow with the season. Regardless of how this might be okay, it might not be the safest thing to do.
Remember that as Christians, we are God’s children and we walk not according to our will but God’s plan. Hence, to the believer, December is more than just merriment and celebration. First, it signals God’s greatest gift to mankind – Jesus Christ. And with this gift (the blood of Jesus), we are bought/now belong to God. Additionally, December is the time/season to showcase the kind of love He brings when He gives His son for the world.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit,r which are God’s.
I Corinthians 6:20 NKJV
Therefore, today’s post highlights five important things Christians should remember when trying to juggle representing God in all they do, having a great and wonderful holiday, ending the year on a positive note, and spreading joy and love everywhere we go, all in this one month:
- Jesus is the reason for the season: As cliche and rhyming as this phrase sounds, Jesus is actually the reason for the season. So, in whatever we do this period, we should never forget that it is because of His sacrifice that we get to be heirs of God. And in all we do, we put Him first and celebrate His gift to humanity the right way.
- You are most beautiful when you are smiling: Despite the holidays being a season to be merry and happy, it is not always like that for everyone. Due to grief, disappointment, and heartbreaks, the Christmas season can be difficult for some. If that is your case, remember that the Lord is your strength and helper in times of trouble. Furthermore, you should never let anything or anyone steal your joy or smile from you. Because you are beautiful when you are smiling.
- Time in God’s Word is what you need the most: It is so easy to get preoccupied with all the bustle and chaos of the season. While it is okay to celebrate Christ with our presents and cooking, we should not neglect our hearts of what it needs the most – God’s word. This December, no matter the line up of activities or events to attend, we should ensure to create time For God’s word. Creating time for God word helps to keep Christ and His work at the core of everything we do this period.
- You are blessed: Things did not go according to plan? Trust me, there is so much to be thankful for. Bear in mind that life itself is a blessing. Therefore, this month, rather than feeling sorry for what did not happen, dare to focus on all the blessings God has given you this year and every other year. Do this and you realize that God’s blessings are on you.
- Treasure the moments: During the holidays, nothing is as frustrating as letting the precious moments slip away because of the mayhem the season brings. In whatever we do this December, it is wise to place our family and friends after God and spend time with them. As in the end, the time spent with them form the precious moments we end up treasuring. Also, besides all the great things associated with December, creating these memories is what makes your holiday wholesome and matters the most.
As the year draws to a close, amidst all the celebration and planning, we should remember to keep the faith alive and stick to the five things listed above in order to have a Jesus-centered celebration.
Happy Holidays!
