Four Things To Note When On A Journey Of Personal Growth

Recently, in the course of a conversation I was having with myself (yes, I do that a lot), I realized that I had experienced tremendous growth in a particular area of my life that I felt was stagnated for a while.
The thing with growth is that when it is happening, it never feels like it. One day, you just look back and you discover that you are a better version of yourself. Thrilling, right? Yes! I felt so just recently too.
However, my euphoric state did not last for long. Because looking back, I just wished that I had done some things differently. Why? While the concept of personal growth is a great journey to embark upon, it is not always the easiest path. Hence, it is an adventure that one must be prepared for and embraced with open arms and heart. Essentially, personal growth can turn out to be a wholesome and fulfilling experience if approached with awareness and intentionality.
As I weigh in on my growth journey, here are some lessons worth considering during a growing season:
- Embrace change: As said earlier, when you are in a season of growth, you hardly notice that it is happening, thus it is always difficult to accept change. It is important to accept change even when you do not really understand what is going on. Bear in mind that change brings growth. Therefore, when you are in a growing phase, let go of all you know or has been and wholeheartedly embrace change. This shows that you trust God and are ready for all that He has in store for you.
- Start and trust God to take you through: As much as growth is a good idea, starting can be a tussle. Because growth stretches you and most times, just the thought of it scares people. Nevertheless, just start! Remember that it is actually the little achievements and wins that make up the big one. Also, start with God. When you start with God, it is inevitable that you will succeed. Because no one ever involves God and regrets it. Decide to start now! But in all your starting, start with God too!
- Avoid comparison: It is quite easy to count other people’s blessings and forget yours. In a season of growth, that should not be the case. Everybody’s growth journey is different and another person’s growth will never stunt your process. So, avoid comparison, stay in your lane, and in due time, the kind of growth you want will happen.
- Give yourself grace: Being unnecessarily hard on yourself is not discipline. While it is good to constructively criticize ourselves often, giving yourself no room for mistakes or failures impede growth. Correct yourself but also give yourself grace. Release the expectations to be perfect and learn and grow from your mistakes and setbacks.
Growth is a wonderful experience if accepted and handled properly. Embrace growth while sticking to the tips listed here and your growth journey will definitely be one for the books.
