A Little Faith Plus A Bit Of Work

The most dominant thought that comes to my mind when I hear the word faith is “All you need is faith as little as a mustard seed.” Most of us are familiar with these words as you must have heard it from church or even from your parents. This popular verse is found in Matthew.

  • Jesus said, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” – Matthew 17:20

In this verse, Jesus emphasizes on the importance of faith and how it can be used as a tool to navigate through life especially in difficult times.

“Because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

James 1:3

Faith is having complete trust or confidence in someone or something. As Christians, faith is primary in our belief because though we have not physically seen God, we believe in Him and His words.

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

  • Hebrews 11:1
  • However, as Christians we become too focused on faith that we ignore the fact that God wants us to work out our faith. For example, you may want to get a job and you are believing and praying to God for doors of opportunities to happen. Though you have faith, nothing will happen if there is no work done to supplement your faith.

“So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

    James 2:7

In this case, you would have to take the time to look for job openings and apply. Even in the process of applying, you have to take action to research the company and find out what they do and how their values align with your personal brand. It is not enough to ask God to open doors for you. You also have to be ready and put in the work that is needed to get the results you are praying for.

Also, in working, we have to remember to put in our best because we are working to glorify God in all our deeds.

Lastly, I want to urge you to always write down your goals and plans on how you will achieve those goals. God is a God of order and He loves when His children are clear on their goals and take the time to strategize.

“Then the LORD replied: “Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.”

    Habbakuk 2:2

I want to encourage you to work out your faith by taking actions that align with the things you are praying for God to manifest in your life. Faith is great, but without work, it is of no value. Make a conscious effort to add action to your faith.
