Doing Away With Distractions for Good

At one point in time or another, we deal with distractions; whether online or offline.

I am sure you must have heard or come across several posts on getting rid of distractions. However, this article is offering you practical tips on how to get rid of distractions for good.

Distractions come in different forms and at different times. People who can spot distractions can stop distraction right in its track and guard their productivity.

Here are seven practical ways you can get rid of distractions for good:

  1. Write a to-do list: you need to clearly state those things you need to do or get done that day. You can do this in the morning so that you will have an idea of what you should be doing and not get distracted by things you are not supposed to be distracted by. However, some things come to us unplanned, and they are very important for us to do. You should be able to detect what and what not to pay attention to. Related Post: Focusing On Our Task
  2. Track time-wasting habits and consciously avoid them: you need be honest with yourself and think critically about those time-wasting things you sometimes engage in. Do you watch too much TV? Play too much computer games? Do you spend hours on social media trying to be the first person the get updates about people, places, things, and current happenings in the world?   3. Arrange your workspace: whether it’s your workstation, your laptop, your files, and so on, arrange them so that it will be easy to locate the things you need to locate without stressing yourself or getting distracted because you are looking for them.
  4. Rest: sometimes we get so overwhelmed with a lot of things that it now starts to look like distractions and getting work done might be a bit tedious. And so, avoid being too overwhelmed with a lot of things. That is why you should also avoid multitasking and take things one at a time. Finish one task before moving to the next. Don’t overwhelm yourself. I have had to learn this in so many ways. I noticed that whenever I try to overwhelm myself, I get distracted.
  5. Turn off unnecessary notifications: you don’t need to check your social media accounts at every time you hear notifications from your different social media accounts. Doing that will distract you from the work you are doing. In addition, you can decide to turn off all unnecessary or less pressing notifications.
  6. If you don’t need to be online while working, then you don’t need to: you don’t have to be online if you don’t need to be online. When you are working and you are online, you may want to stop working and surf the net. If this not handled well, it can lead to distractions.
  7. Take breaks: another way of getting rid of distractions is to ensure that you take breaks from work or tasks when needed. If you don’t take breaks, and you continue work and work without pausing to relax or refresh or pausing to stretch your body, you might feel distracted later on or tired.
