Benefits Of Living In Christ, As Unveiled In Romans 8

One of my favorite Scriptures to read in the Bible is Romans 8. Why? It is packed with many promises for me and every other child of God. It is one chapter that extensively highlights the benefits accrued to those who accept to be in Christ. Romans 8 shows the heart of God towards His children. It also explains what it truly means to be children of God and the power this gives us over sin and death.
Redemption is God’s greatest gift to mankind. In essence, it is what we get in return for accepting Christ. However, the devil does not want us belonging to God. He fights day and night to see that the world is still in his grasp. And for those who are redeemed, to not fully understand what this gift entails.
Hence, it is our duty as believers to constantly remind ourselves of our power as Christians and why it is necessary we draft many into the fold too.
So, for today’s post, we’ll be dissecting Romans 8 and finding out why accepting Jesus is the best decision you made or will ever make.
Let us start with the first verse. Romans 8:1 assures us that we are no longer under any condemnation. Is this not wonderful? This means that once you are in Christ, what bad thing you might have done or been becomes inconsequential. God is no longer judging you based on past sins. Now, all that matters is that you belong to Christ and His spirit flows through you. What could be more wonderful than this?
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
Romans 8:1 NKJV
Moving down to verse two, this verse affirms that we are no longer under the law but under grace. Therefore, we are free from sin and death. As sin and death is a byproduct of the law and everlasting life is by grace.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Romans 8:2 NKJV
The next text shedding further light on what redemption offers the believer is in verse 3. Here, it speaks of Christ achieving something that we could never achieve on our own. He practically condemned sin in His flesh on our behalf. This implies that God found sin guilty and practically sentenced it through the sufferings of His son in the cross. And where does this leave us now? As free and new creatures in Christ.
For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,”
Romans 8:3 NKJV
When we take a step forward to verse 6, we notice that God cares about the wellbeing of His children. By putting His spirit in us, we enjoy peace and life, instead of worldly desires which equals sin and death. Thus, He is a doting and loving Father.
For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Romans 8:6 NKJV
And verse 9 sums it all up by declaring what the devil never wants to hear; We have His spirit so, we belong to Him. We gained this through the blood of His precious son. This further proves that the power and authority we have over sickness, pain, lack, hardships, and suffering is unreal.
But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
Romans 8:9 NKJV
At this point, I am shouting Amen. Because being in Christ is indeed the best thing that can happen to any person.
