Everyday Fitness Tips For Beginners

Would you believe that God cares about your workout routine? Well, He does! God cares about every area of our lives including the little things. In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, he states “but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

I want to highlight the keyword “EVERYTHING” because this means that God cares about even the least details including your fitness goals. When I first started my journey to become more fit, I relied on the strength God gives me. Though I have been working out for about 10 years now, I still pray before every workout session.

I used to be overweight to the point where I felt a bit sluggish and breathing became a bit difficult. I started working out because I realized that I could not continue to ask God to help me get more energy or feel healthier when I was not taking care of my body.

In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV), Paul asks, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? … So glorify God in your body.”

Though this verse is typically applied to sexual abstinence, I believe it plays an important role in fitness and taking care of your body. Our bodies play a major role in how we navigate the world. God was intentional in the way he designed us. For most of us, we only have one chance to treat our bodies right. There are several tips that I have learned along the way and I would like to share those with you.

  1. Write You Goals Down: The first step to achieving your goals is to understand what those goals are. I love writing my goals down because it gives me a sense of clarity and direction. If you want to get serious about your fitness goals, I urge you to take some time to assess where you are, where you want to be and also what it will take to get there. Once you have these goals written, revisit them often and revise as your progress.
  2. Get An Accountability Partner: Life is a lot easier when you have support to go through the tough times together. If you have a friend who has a similar goal, ask them to be your accountability partner. This could include checking in with each other or physically going to the gym or grocery store together.
  3. Find A Workout Plan That Works For You: Having a set workout routine will help you stay on track and accountable. There are so many fitness trainers that provide monthly plans that is easy to follow and don’t require a gym.
  4. Meal Prep: Take time during the weekend to go grocery shopping and buy food that would positively impact your health. This helps you to stay on track with your health goals.
  5. Pray: Last but not least, prayer gives you strength because you rely on God.

These tips are great for beginners and it will help you especially if you are not a fitness guru. I hope these propel your fitness journey.
