For a long time, reading my Bible felt like a chore. It was something I dreaded yet could not avoid, if I wanted to grow. Firstly, I could not fully grasp what I was reading. Then, I did not know where to start. Essentially, I just felt lost in the area of personal Bible study. It was obvious I needed all the help I could get if I wanted to enjoy studying my Bible, thus laying a strong foundation in God. And some might say, “why do you have to enjoy studying your Bible?” My answer is, “why not?” God is not dealing with robots. He is dealing with His Children. Therefore, He likes it when we enjoy spending time with Him and getting to know Him.
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.
I John 5:3 NKJV
Yes! You should enjoy your Bible study time.
However, the only way one can appreciate and understand God through His word is if you understand what you are reading. Also, knowing where to start helps too.
Are you on the boat of not knowing where to begin as it relates to God’s word? Does the Bible seem hard to comprehend? My advice is that after asking the Holy Spirit for help, look for Bible books that are interesting and filled with information on God and His love.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
