We worship God through our finances too. The manner in which we handle our money can either bring shame or glory to God. Simply put, God is glorified when His children are able to manage their finances in a godly and orderly manner. Most might say “why put God and money in the same place?” Why not? We live in an earthly world and money is the currency for goods and services. Hence, if us, Christians, are to function maximally, we must seek financial wisdom. Consequently, turning it into a tool for advancing God’s kingdom. Yes! You heard me! We need money to carry the gospel to the nooks and crannies of the earth. Therefore, it will be in our interest to embrace biblical principles of financial stewardship.

The Bible provides profound wisdom and guidance on how to handle finances responsibly. By accepting these truths, Christians can cultivate financial stewardship that not only strengthens their relationship with God but also leads to a more abundant and purposeful life.

With that said, here are verses that shed more light on God’s stance on financial stewardship.

  1. Proverbs 3:9-10: Everything we have, God gave us. An effective way to show that we are grateful and aware of the source, is by honoring the Lord with our wealth. Here, we put God first and sovereign in our finances and trust in His provision. Tithing, offerings, and pledges demonstrate obedience and helps us prioritize what truly matters, fostering financial stewardship that aligns with God’s bidding.

Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  1. Matthew 6:24: In today’s world, it is common to see people do the most for money. Jesus warns against it, as we cannot serve both God and money. Financial stewardship that pleases God is one that requires us to examine our hearts and ensure that our ultimate allegiance is with God and not money. This goes further to show that we love and trust Him to provide for us.

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6‬:‭24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  1. Luke 16:10-11: Cultivating financial stewardship begins with faithfully managing even the smallest resources we have been entrusted with. By doing so, we emphasize integrity and develop the necessary skills for success, thus setting the stage for larger blessings in our lives.

He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

‭‭Luke‬ ‭16‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  1. Proverbs 21:5: Planning and diligence are necessary skills in developing good financial habits. Being a faithful steward involves creating a financial roadmap, setting goals, and diligently working towards them. This way, we can make sound financial decisions that honor God and secure our future.

The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty.

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭21‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬

  1. Philippians 4:19: This verse assures us that even in the midst of financial turmoil, God will not let us down. Instead, He will meet all our needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 brings comfort and hope, especially during challenging financial times. Trusting in God’s provision portrays financial stewardship rooted in faith rather than fear. It reminds us that our security lies in God’s never-ending supply and unfailing love, not in material possessions or wealth.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
