Five Promises Of God To Hold Onto As The New Year Unfolds

Recently, I stumbled on a post where a Christian YouTuber talked about how she entered the year feeling lost and confused. She also highlighted that she had to post some throwback pictures to remind herself of how far she has come, in a bid to shake off the negative feelings. It made so much sense to me because I had entered the year stuck in the same dilemma. I would not say that I was exactly lost or not excited about the new year, I just felt a bit overwhelmed by all the planning and figuring out and executing the new year brings.
So, one lesson I learnt early on in the year is that, it is okay to feel overwhelmed or lost at the start of a new year. Entering the year feeling like you need to slow down or cool off a bit does not necessarily mean that you do not have plans for the year or the year will not count.
However, you still have to take charge of the situation so as to not allow those negative feeling take root. Now, you take charge of the situation by reminding yourself of these truths:
- These feelings are temporary and will soon pass.
- It is only what God says or has planned for you that will stand.
- God’s promises are yeah and amen (meaning that they always come to pass).
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 NIV
Therefore, for today’s post, I will be listing a handful of the promises of God found in Scriptures that one can use to shake off negative feelings as the year progresses.
They include:
- Deuteronomy 31:8 (He will never leave or forsake us)
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
No matter the uncertainties or challenges this year brings, God is never letting go of our hands. He will be there every step of the way.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 (His power is perfect in our weakness)
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV
What a beautiful promise! It speaks of God’s grace and love towards us. It simply says that when we are weak and “cannot”, we should come to Him (God) who is ever strong and always ready to help and strengthen us.
- Exodus 14:14 (God will fight for us)
The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Exodus 14:14 NIV
This is to say that we need not worry when life’s battles or circumstances arise. Instead, we should be still and trust in our all-powerful Heavenly Father. Because in due time, victory will be ours
- John 3:16 (God loves us)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16 NIV
This is a bold declaration of God’s love for us. It summarizes how chosen and precious we are to God. I mean, He sent His son to die for us. What an awesome privilege.
- Habakkuk 3:19 (He will put joy in our hearts, and energy in our feets)
The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights. For the director of music. On my stringed instruments.
Habakkuk 3:19 NIV
Our Loving Father assures us of His joy and love in our lives. He also has promises to strengthen us for greater successes. I am yet to meet a supportive and loving father than God!
