How To Shine Your Christian Light At Work
The Bible says we are a city on a hill. This means that we shine like stars wherever we go. Therefore, in a world filled with darkness, we are to radiate God’s glory anywhere we find ourselves, even at work. Let your colleagues see the light you carry so that the unbelieving ones amongst them can turn to Christ for the salvation of their souls.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16 NKJV
Since it is important to shine forth as the light, how then can you shine your Christian at work?
- Profess your salvation unashamedly: Some Christians find it difficult to profess their faith publicly. They like to play it safe. If you want your Christian light to shine at work, then be willing to let people see and know where you stand in Christ. The Bible says:
No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a vessel or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a lampstand, that those who enter may see the light.
Luke 8:16 NKJV
- Put on a Christ-like attitude: The Christ-like factor should be in your heart as well as in your character. Do not say my heart is pure, but your character is not pure. Your colleagues should not wonder too much if you are indeed a Christian; they should see it!
Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.
Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV
- Spread love and peace: God is love, and if you must shine as a light, you must walk in love. And you cannot walk in love and not be at peace with people. As Christians who desire to shine a light at work, you must be willing to live in love and be peaceful.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Colossians 3:15 NKJV
- Help your colleagues build their faith in God:
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV
The scriptures above emphasizes a Christian’s primary duty at work; we are to bring as many people as possible into the faith including our colleagues. Do not assume that your colleagues are born again, be sure of their salvation.
We must stand firm in our walk with God because the days are evil and the Bible advises us to redeem the time. Let your Christian light shine forth at the workplace and everywhere.
