One of the things required for effective teamwork is effective planning.
It’s a new year and you might be required to plan with your team or unit at work for the year; it is important that you plan effectively.
When you don’t plan effectively as a team or even as an individual; there is a possibility that you might not be able to work effectively towards the set goals.

And so, here are some of the things to consider when planning:
Have a clear purpose
When planning, you need to make sure that you have a clear purpose for the job your team is working on. For instance, if you are planning with your team to organize an event for your company; you need to make sure that there is a clear purpose that everyone is aware of. For this example, the clear purpose might be to plan a successful award show for your company, to plan for the New Year for your department, etc.
Make it measurable
Before making plans, ensure that the goals you and your team are working towards are measurable. This is because you can’t monitor or track what is not measurable. And so, if the goals aren’t measurable yet, sit down with your team and craft a measurable goal. For instance, rather than saying you want to produce publications throughout this year, you can say you want to produce 1 publication each month of this year, making it 12 publications in all, this year.
Set milestones
When planning, don’t forget to set milestones. Milestones are certain stages or phases in a project timeline. And so, when you set milestones when planning, you have something you can easily monitor to ensure that you are on track with your goals.
Assign responsibilities
You also need to make sure that you assign responsibilities to every member of the team. This is so to make it easier to monitor and gauge each of their performance.
Track outputs
You also need to ensure that you track the outputs delivered by each member of the group. This is to make sure that everyone is on track with the planning.
Monitor
You also have to set monitoring measures in place to effectively monitor the work of every member of the team. The monitoring should be done continuously.
Use planning tools
Don’t forget that there are so many tools you can utilize for effective planning. Remember that you can download several online apps useful for planning and project collaboration.
Be engaging
When planning, ensure that you involve everyone, don’t just involve some people and leave others out of it. Try to get the input of everyone and make sure that you communicate in an engaging way so that people can easily participate.
Communicate effectively
Communication is an important part of human activity. When you effectively communicate with people, you pass the message you intend to pass smoothly. Among you and your teammates, you need to communicate effectively, and not just communicate effectively, but also encourage your teammates to communicate effectively.
Encourage feedback
When working with teams, one of the things you need to do is to encourage quality feedbacks from team members. When you encourage quality feedback from your team members, you easily get to know what your team members need more clarification on or help with.
