The cold, snowy winter days make you want to retreat to your home, wrap up in a blanket and admire the winter charms from the inside. Although you may not be able to spend the entire winter in your warm home, you can make your time inside as comfortable and cozy as possible with these simple design ideas.
Use colors for coziness
Whether you’re planning to repaint your walls or introduce decorative details in new hues, you should choose colors that will add to the coziness of your home. Against the white backdrop of winter, hues such as soft yellow, warm red, orange, different shades of green and deep blue, can create a warm, stylish contrast. You can use them for accent details that will introduce unexpected pops of color, design accent walls or completely change the color palette of your home with these lovely hues.
Choose soft materials
A single look at certain materials can inspire comfort and make you wish to curl up in your bed. One of the best materials for creating the cozy atmosphere in your home is faux sheepskin. This plush material will elevate your bedroom décor, keep you warm and create layered looks in the other rooms. Velvet is yet another lush material that will set the tone of elegance in your home. You can use it to upholster your favorite piece of furniture, as well as a fabric for your throw pillows. Using soft materials in your home will create a stunning contrast against, for example, leather furniture. Finally, wool is also a great source of softness – use it for your blanket and throws casually tossed on your sofa, bed or chairs.
Stack up cozy throw pillows
Along with soft blankets come cozy throw pillows, so you better make room because you’ll need a lot of them. You can use different sizes, colors, designs, and patterns to both create an ambiance of coziness and add to the general style of your home. You should have plenty of them to sit against and hug while watching a movie while drinking hot cocoa. Of course, you need to introduce them to your bedroom, as well, where they can help you create your safe, cozy sanctuary.
Keep your feet warm with rugs
You didn’t forget about rugs, did you? You can introduce them practically anywhere. Your living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and hallway all have room for stylish rugs that will give them depth. To maximise the coziness of your home, you should layer two or three rugs on top of each other. Not only will you give your space character, but your home will look cozier than ever. You can find a great selection of beautiful rugs online and you just need to pick those that fit your home décor. If you choose to layer rugs, you should aim for a contrasting look. For example, you can place a lovely rug made of natural materials and then add a plush one on top of it. You can also go with contrasting colors, patterns or shapes in order to accentuate both rugs.
Introduce intimate lighting
As a multifunctional design element, lighting can help you create an inviting, warm atmosphere, as well as elevate your home décor. And when it comes to coziness, there’s an abundance of great solutions. From string lights behind light fabrics to regular dimmers, lighting fixtures that emit a soft, warm glow will immediately create a homey look. Candles are, of course, an inevitable element, so make sure to introduce plenty of them. You should cluster them all in one place, for example, on your coffee table or dining table. In the evening, you should dim the lights, light up the candles and play some smooth jazz tunes.
From soft, plush materials to intimate lighting and warm colors, there’s a plethora of decorating ideas that can help you transform your home into a cozy retreat.
