Three Compelling Reasons to Embrace Prayer Writing

Believers should pray without ceasing if they are looking to get divine guidance and direction regarding diverse areas of their lives. Yes! If you want a seamless and consistent relationship with God where He speaks and you listen, praying has to become a lifestyle.
Be unceasing and persistent in prayer.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 AMP
and My people, who are called by My Name, humble themselves, and pray and seek (crave, require as a necessity) My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear [them] from heaven, and forgive their sin and heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 AMP
But it is also a fact that it is not every time a Christian will feel like mouthing his/her requests or thanksgiving to God. Some days can be so overwhelming that there will be no strength or motivation to have a simple conversation with God. No matter what you do, you will feel lazy getting the words out of your mouth. And at times like this, it is easy for Christians to feel guilty about not seeking God in prayer. This is not the right way to go about these situations. Rather than feeling sad or angry, seek other methods of communicating with Him.
In the same way the Spirit [comes to us and] helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit Himself [knows our need and at the right time] intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words.
Romans 8:26 AMP
Prayer writing is one effective way to still have quality conversations with God when the words of your mouth fail you. Here, you use a pen and paper to seek God’s face and listen for His answers. And one might say, “can this kind of communication suffice for actual conversations with God?” Well, the above verse makes it clear that there will be times when we will not know what or how to pray.
However, the good news is that the Holy Spirit is ever present to help us in such difficult situations. Hence, prayer writing is an instrument the Holy Spirit uses to help us convey words that cannot be uttered.
Bear in my mind that God search the intents of our hearts. So it does not matter whether we are actually using our mouths or pens to communicate with God. All that matters is our heart’s connection and position in all of it.
I, the Lord, search and examine the mind, I test the heart, To give to each man according to his ways, According to the results of his deeds.
Jeremiah 17:10 AMP
Yet to persuade you to consider prayer writing as a form of intimacy with God? Here are some convincing reasons why it is worth embracing:
- It helps to document your spiritual journey: In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is easy to lose track of your spiritual growth. Hence, prayer writing allows you to keep track of your growing relationship with God. Also, writing out your prayer is an ideal practice for reminding yourself of God’s goodness. Here, you flip through old pages of your prayer journal and you realize that these prayers have turned to testimonies. Surely, your strength will be strengthened. Now, tell me a better way to encourage oneself during difficult times and create space for gratitude.
- It improves clarity and focus: Desire a prayer time where you concentrate and are free from distractions? Subscribe to prayer writing. Writing your prayers is an excellent way to bring a sense of intentionality to your spiritual practice. Furthermore, the physical act of writing improves clarity and focus by anchoring your thoughts and prayers in the present moment.
- It is effective for overcoming intrusive thoughts: Does this happen to anyone else or am I the only one whose mind thinks that prayer time is the perfect time to plan for the next day too? Yes! I am in that boat too and I trust it is as frustrating as it is for me. Well, there is a way out! At times where your mind is in a constant loop of thoughts, prayer writing is great for blocking out intrusive thoughts.
By journaling your prayers, you get to maintain a clear mind during the prayer. And this helps to eliminate anything that will not allow your heart to connect to God’s.
One thing I love about today’s society is its ability to improvise in any given situation. Prayer writing might not be as traditional as the normal mode of communicating with God. Nevertheless, it does a brilliant job of laying out your thoughts on God’s feet. What are you waiting for ? Grab a pen, open that journal, and thank me later.
