Three Impactful Ways Christians Can Use Social Media

Social media without caution is not advisable. Although, if used positively and with discipline is a big blessing. Social media is undoubtedly the platform where one can create tremendous positive impressions if used intentionally. Statistics show that the internet has 5.473 billion users by June 2022 and there are 4.62 billion active social media users. So, just imagine how many lives one can touch by the click of a button.
Living an impactful life as a Christian is a daily choice. It is choosing to spread Jesus’ love rather than toxicity at all times. Be it in the marketplace, office, school, or even on social media. It is taking a stand for good wherever you find yourself – onscreen or offscreen.
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:13-16 NKJV
Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
Philippians 4:8 NKJV
With help from the Christian community, I know that social media has the power to make the world a better place. It just involves Christians taking deliberate steps to ensure that their onscreen time is helping the world in whatever way it can. Inasmuch as social media is for fun and entertainment, is also a place where the love and joy of God can seen and spread in whatever you do thus, creating godly transformation far and wide.
ow then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.
II Corinthians 5:20 NKJV
How Is this achievable?
These are the impactful ways a Christian can use social media:
- Always correct in love: Do not forget that Christians are humans and they are warring against the flesh, like everyone else. When they slip every now and then, it is not for other Christians to drag or judge them on social media. But to correct them in love and a gentle spirit. That is the true definition of Christianity.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.
Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV
- Encourage one another in Christ: Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are structured to accommodate online communities. Therefore, a brilliant way Christians can lead impactful lives there, is by continuously encouraging and admonishing your fellow Christians with uplifting spiritual content. This can also play a role in drafting unbelievers into the fold, as anyone can stumble upon anything on social media.
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
I Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV
- Seek to create unity in the body of Christ: Do not create or post content that creates discord among believers. Instead, seek to bring believers together at any given opportunity. This way, there is room for growth and the presence of God strives.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Colossians 3:14-15 NKJV
