It is the new year and along with the new year comes resolutions. One of which may include rekindling your quiet time. Having a good devotional seems like a good start to help achieve your goal.
Finding the right devotional can sometimes be a daunting task. Take it from someone who has been there. I set out to find a new devotional this year and I am pretty pleased with what I found. In addition, I decided to get a few recommendations from friends and come up with top 3 apps to help you in your search.
Let’s get right to it!
CBN Bible
The CBN is one of my top favorite devotional apps. The CBN app is a bible but also has the devotional feature. The app features multiple devotional topics and scripture image for the day. The verse for the day can be helpful in memorizing scriptures. You can opt to receive bible reading plans and daily devotions in your email. It also includes various study plans. Currently, there are about seven bible study plans that you can participate in. I would like to see more study plans but besides that, I think it is a great app.
I like that it has different features – Bible/Audio Bible and devotional…Also, I think the NLT version is easier to understand. – Kevwe
As listed on the app info page in the app store, other features of the app include – strong concordance note and reference, search feature, NASB translation, different font sizes, Matthew Henry’s complete commentary, etc. And it is totally free!
YouVersion
I used the YouVersion for about 2 years or more. It is also a bible app but it includes daily devotionals. Unlike the CBN app, there are over 1,500 bible versions that can be compared. And if you like audio bibles then that’s also a feature on the YouVersion.
There are numerous plans to choose from in the YouVersion Bible. One of the features I particularly on the YouVersion bible is that you can create an account and retrieve all your notes and highlights on any device.
Another feature I found intriguing was that I could add my friends and see what study plans they were currently participating in. You can also discuss daily devotionals with friends on the app.
The goal is to have a consistent Bible study life. As such, the YouVersion bible records your visits to the app as streaks and also records when you have a perfect week. This feature helps build your bible study habit.
Solid Joys
The Solid Joys app is a devotional app by the John Piper ministry. I have only read one devotional and so far I like what I read. It is a basic app and easy to use. A plus is the option to choose between English and Korean language.
Depth of the word and span of coverage – Ayodeji
Conclusion
Whilst I believe that devotionals help you improve your quiet time, I also believe that it doesn’t substitute your personal study of the bible. Hence the reason why the first two apps are my favorite. The CBN and YouVersion apps are first bible apps with the devotional as an addition.
What apps do you use for your daily devotion? Kindly share and help others who are in search of devotional apps.
