Ladies, Ladies, Ladies!!! Drumroll!! I am sure that I am not the only one that has noticed the increase in the price of a weave. Oh well, I got vexed at the outrageous price of weaves and I decided to find a way out. I decided to compile 5 top hairdos, I have tried out almost all of them, so I personally recommend them;
#1 – Crochet Braids
Number one on my list is crochet braids. There may be some expensive brands for making this style but I used expression multi and it cost about 500-600 naira. I used two and it lasted about two months. It could have lasted more than that but I simply decided to take it off. One of the benefits of this style is the fact that it is a protective hair style.
#2 – Kiki Braids
I made my Kiki braids like dreads so it could last six months if I want it to but I am taking it down next month, next week Friday would make it 2 months. Each pack costs about 900 naira, I bought four packs but used 3 instead and a little out of the 4th one. I used brown at the top and black at the tip, maybe that’s why I used a lot, depends on how full you want it. As I was making mine we saw a lady that used fifteen (who has time for that kind of load). Also, remember you are saving cost so consider the number to use. This style is finer when it isn’t so full. You could also use Brazilian wool. It goes for 250 naira and you maybe needing about 10-12 but that is a no go area for me, I can’t bear the pain.
#3 – Ghana Weaving
Well, I run away from Ghana weaving because of the pain involved but I think if I can bear the pain for Kiki Braids I just may be able to bear it for Ghana Weaving. This may not last long anyways especially for people who are natural. If you want your Ghana Weaving to last longer make it when your hair is relaxed, for those who have relaxed hair. I can’t give advice for naturals as regards making Ghana weaving because I have a relaxed hair.
#4 – Dreadlocks
My mom is simply not a fan of dreads because she thinks I stand at a risk of losing my hair. Kiki and Brazilian wool can pass for dreads depending on how it is made. Mine was made like dreads so I can carry it for a long period of time, I just need to wash occasionally. The amount used for dreads may not be so cheap. My Kiki was quite expensive to fix, so I imagine the price for dreads, I had to bargain but when you think of the number of months that you won’t make your hair it is worth it.
#5 – Style your natural hair
Last but not the least, be proud of your hair, carry it once in a while. Learn to style it, just google different ways to pack your hair. I think this favours the natural sistas (yeah can see your smile, almost everyone is going natural but the people around me will not let me be great and go natural).
***
Since the society of weave sellers decided to have a meeting on making weaves super expensive, we also decided to abort their mission by finding a way to look burriful without breaking the bank. The reason I am so burnt about the hike in the price of weave is the fact that I usually can’t keep my weave after using it once, irrespective of the price. I am learning to maintain my weave now, so hopefully, when I buy one at an outrageous price, I can use it until it screams for freedom 🙂
*Bonus advice: You can also settle for a wig especially if you are going for the option of leaving your hair out for a while…They are quite affordable and can save you some money. Check out SB hair here
