Top Skills To Learn That Will Pay Off Forever

One thing I am learning as an adult is that there is no pause when it comes to learning. You have to learn, unlearn, and relearn as many times as needed to grow as a person. This is to say that one can never run out of things to learn. No matter how much skills and experiences you acquire in your professional and personal arsenal, there will always be room to learn more if you want to be an invaluable asset wherever you find yourself.

Professionally, acquiring hard skills such as project management, research, writing, and data analysis and soft skills like problem solving, critical thinking, leadership, and communication is one sure way to set yourself up for the apex in your career. Notwithstanding, it is not enough to succeed only professionally. For you to be grounded in every area of your life, there are certain “personal” skills you need to learn to make you an all round success and create balance.

These top “personal” skills are skills you probably take for granted. Although you should not. Because if acquired or learnt properly, they have the potential to cause a ripple effect in different areas of your life for a lifetime. Unlike the hard and soft skills needed for your career and networking days, these other sets of skills are skills needed for everyday living.

And they include:

  1. Speaking up: Learning to express your opinion, thoughts or experiences about something is an invaluable skill in today’s society. But most importantly, knowing how and when to speak up singles you from the crowd. It also shows that you possess the skill sets for healthy interactions and relationships. Hence, it it is important to learn to speak up for yourself.
  1. Having confidence Confidence is key in achieving anything you want to achieve. How are people going to believe you when you do not believe yourself? Being confident in your abilities helps create opportunities and attract people to you and your work. In essence, boost your skill sets with a bit of confidence and become a highflier.
  1. Active listening: There is a difference between hearing and listening. Hearing is the process of perceiving sound while listening involves giving thoughtful attention to sound with the intent of hearing and making consideration. Cultivating the habit of actively listening and responding facilitates communication and helps form good connections with people. A much needed asset in today’s world.

These skills actually pay off forever. There is no end to using them. If you are yet to acquire them, I urge you to. And if you have, I want to hear how they have helped make living wholesome in the comment section.
