Upgrade Your Workout Routine

Working out can be tough if you are stuck doing the same routines over and over again. As someone who has been working out for about 10 years, I would say that it is very easy to get bored with my workout routine. I would like to share some of the things I do to help spice up my workout.

  1. Follow A New Plan Every Week: If you are doing jumping jacks and squats every day, you will surely get tired. In order to avoid boredom in my workouts, I follow a weekly/monthly plan that comprises of several exercises that are done using different sets and reps. 6 sets of 10 squats

4 sets of 8 burpees

5 sets of 10 Leg Kick backs

4 sets of 10 frog jumps

Week Two

6 sets of 10 sumo squats

4 sets of 10 second planks

5 sets of box jumps

  1. Buy New Workout Clothes: There is something about buying new gym clothes that get you excited to start working out. You can treat yourself to a new outfit for every time you consistently work out for a month.
  1. Create A Playlist That Will Keep You Pumping: Music is a major motivation in my workout. If I listen to a good playlist, I find myself pushing past my comfort zone in my workout routines. I personally love listening to hip hop music or afro beats while working out. Take time to create a playlist that suits your personality and you will be motivated to push past your comfort zone.
  1. Find An Accountability Buddy or Group: Having someone to work out with can help you stay on track with your fitness goals. While its ideal to have a fitness trainer, obtaining a trainer can be quite expensive. An alternative to this is to get a few friends who are serious about achieving their fitness goals. You can create a group chat where you check in with each other and hold each other accountable.
  1. Pay Yourself: When I first Started working out, I utilized a system where I gave myself $1-$5 per workout I competed every day. By the end of the month, I had saved a nice stash of money to buy myself some nice workout shoes and clothes. Sometimes, having incentive to do something can help you achieve your goals!

Try these tips and let us know if your found them helpful in upgrading your workout routine!
