WHY KINDNESS IS IMPORTANT

Kindness has so much effect on people; it shows them that people care about them and that there are good people in the world. Most importantly, it shows that we are Christ’s; people see Christ in us.
We all need kindness at one point in time, sometimes we want the receptionist to be kind to us, we want the doorman to smile at us, we want the sales personnel to ask us how our day was, we want someone to ask us if we have eaten, we want to be asked if we are okay, and so on.
Just like we need kindness too, other people also need it; our families, friends, church members, strangers, neighbours, etc. also need kindness.
Sometimes we receive kindness from people, and at other times we do not receive it. But there is something we can do; we can always show kindness to others regardless of how we are feeling or how the other person is treating us.
One of the ways people can see Jesus in us is through our attitude. When we as Christians are kind in a very hostile environment, for instance, people sometimes wonder why we are like that, why we have so much happiness in spite of what the situation is saying, why we are always confident in Christ, and so on. Then they begin to understand Who you belong to, which is Jesus. Wherever we go and in whatsoever we do, we should let people see Jesus Christ in us.
Matthew 5:16 (KJV) says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
Also, another thing to note about kindness is that we don’t know who is hurting and we don’t know who might need our help. Somebody might be going through a bad day or might be sorrowful and our words of kindness can change that person’s day and improve the person’s mood.
A little bit of kindness goes a long way because we don’t know just a little bit of kindness others need. Someone whose mood is down can just need someone to remind them that God loves them or someone to even be interested in their good works and tell them they are doing well and encourage them.
Another thing to note about kindness is that we shouldn’t do kindness with ulterior motives; rather we should be kind to others genuinely and also not expect them to reward us for being kind to them.
Even if someone doesn’t appreciate your acts of kindness, you don’t need to be angry or sad, rather be happy that you have shown kindness.
Also, let us not forget to show kindness in little ways as well as in big ways. There are so many ways we can show kindness to those around us; it could be through our words, smile, actions, and so on. With God’s help, we can show kindness to others.
