Why You Should Pray For Your Future Marriage

In my early 20s, I remember not praying in church anytime a marriage point was raised. Now, you would ask; Is it that you were not planning to get married? Well, the answer is no! I just felt that since I did not plan on getting married yet, it was not necessary I pray at that time.
Few years later and I think that is such an erroneous thinking. As far as it was in my plan, whether it was time or not, I should have began committing my marriage ways unto the Lord.
Most times, we tend to schedule the time we should “bother” God with our problems. While this is considerate, God does mind. Infact, He loves it when we come to Him all the time. This shows that we depend and trust Him to perfect everything that concerns us. Furthermore, in Proverbs 8:17, God is very clear about seeking Him early. It is in coming to Him early that you find Him. In other words, if you want that marriage to be solid and hassle-free, coming to God early is the way to achieve that.
I love those who love me; And those who seek me early and diligently will find me.
Proverbs 8:17 AMP
Commit your works to the Lord [submit and trust them to Him], And your plans will succeed [if you respond to His will and guidance].
Proverbs 16:3 AMP
If after all I have said, you are not still convinced as to why you should turn your future union to God, below are some reasons you actually should:
- You give God reign over this part of your life: When you pray about your future union, you hand over everything concerning your marriage to God. You are indirectly telling God that you trust Him and you know that whatever the outcome is, it is for your own good. And with this, you give Him the control to guide and lead your marriage endeavors.
- It sets the foundation for your marriage: Christian marriages built on prayer always thrive. Want your marriage to be a replica of the one existing between Christ and His church? Pray! The verse below says it all. Any marriage lacking in prayer, trust, and faith, it is only a matter of time before the partnership ends. Hence, if you want a solid bond that the gate of hell cannot crumble, pray!
If the foundations [of a godly society] are destroyed, What can the righteous do?
Psalms 11:3 AMP
- You let go of worry and anxiety: It is in our human nature to worry about the future or things we cannot control. And with that comes anxiety, loneliness, fear, jealousy, and worry. When in a waiting season, rather than letting these negative emotions consume you, pray for your future marriage. This shows faith and trust in God. It also create the right atmosphere for joy, peace, gratitude, and contentment to seep through.
Do not be anxious or worried about anything, but in everything [every circumstance and situation] by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, continue to make your [specific] requests known to God. And the peace of God [that peace which reassures the heart, that peace] which transcends all understanding, [that peace which] stands guard over your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus [is yours].
Philippians 4:6-7 AMP
